A small studio, on purpose.
Dossey's Studio LLC is an independent software studio in Arlington, Texas, owned and operated by Darrin Dossey. It exists to give small businesses the kind of software that usually only larger companies get to have — built for how they actually work, by someone who answers the phone.
Most small businesses are running on workarounds
Not because anyone did anything wrong. It happens the same way every time: you buy a tool that fits eighty percent of the job, and the other twenty percent becomes a spreadsheet. Then a second spreadsheet. Then somebody on your team quietly becomes the integration between two systems that were never designed to talk to each other.
None of it looks like a crisis. It just costs a few hours a week, forever, and it makes every new hire harder to train because half the process lives in someone's head.
The usual options aren't great. Enterprise software is priced and scoped for companies with an IT department. Big agencies want a six-figure project or they aren't interested. And the freelance marketplace is a coin flip on whether anyone's still around in a year when something needs changing.
Dossey's Studio is the option in the middle: real custom software, built at a size that makes sense for a small business, by one person you can actually reach.
Darrin Dossey
I'm the person who scopes your project, writes the code, and picks up the phone afterwards. There is no team behind me that you never meet, and no account manager relaying messages. When you ask whether something is possible, you get an answer from the person who'd have to build it.
I started Dossey's Studio because the small businesses around Arlington and Mansfield kept having the same problem and kept being told it wasn't worth solving. It usually is. It just needs to be solved at the right scale.
I work across the whole thing — the database, the application, the integrations, and the boring operational parts that determine whether software still works two years later. That range matters for small projects, because there's nobody to hand the awkward parts to.
I'm also a working software operator, not only a contractor. Dossey's Studio builds and runs its own product, which means I live with the same decisions I recommend to clients.
Four things I won't compromise on
The smallest thing that solves it
Plenty of engagements should end with a two-week automation instead of a six-month build, and I'd rather tell you that than sell you the bigger version. If you don't need custom software at all, you'll hear that too.
You own what you paid for
Your data, your code, your accounts. No proprietary format holding your business hostage, and no arrangement where leaving means starting over. Ownership terms are written into the agreement before work starts.
Plain language, always
You should be able to explain what you're buying to your accountant. If an explanation needs jargon to sound impressive, it's usually hiding an assumption worth questioning.
Built to be handed over
Documentation, a real handover, and code that a different developer could pick up. You shouldn't be locked in by the fact that only one person understands your system — including when that person is me.
What to expect
A full breakdown of the engagement process lives on the home page. The short version:
The first call is free
Nothing to prepare and no obligation. I want to understand what's slow, what breaks, and what it's costing you before anyone talks about what to build.
Fixed price, written scope
Before work starts you get a plain-English description of what will be built, what it costs, and roughly how long it takes. No hourly surprises.
You see it as it's built
Work ships in pieces you can use and react to, so corrections happen early and cheaply rather than at the end.
Dossey's Studio builds products too
Oche League Manager
League management software for darts leagues — team registration, season scheduling, rosters, match night scoring, and stats in one place. Built, hosted, and supported by Dossey's Studio LLC.
Running a product rather than only shipping projects keeps the studio honest. Every architectural shortcut I might recommend to a client, I've already had to live with on my own uptime.
Where and how we operate
Service area
Based in Arlington, Texas, working across Mansfield and the greater Dallas–Fort Worth area. Remote clients nationwide are welcome — but if it helps to sit in the same room and watch how the work actually happens, local means we can.
The business
Dossey's Studio LLC is a Texas limited liability company registered in Arlington, Tarrant County. Contracts, invoices, and support all come from the same entity that writes the software.
Getting started
Email or call. Describe the problem in whatever words you'd use to describe it to a colleague — translating it into technical requirements is my job, not yours.
Got something that should be easier than it is?
Tell me what's slowing you down. If I'm not the right fit, I'll say so and point you somewhere better.
